Meet Kelsey
Hello! My name is Kelsey, and I am the founder and primary designer here at Kelsey Nicole Interiors. As a fourth-generation Montanan, I grew up surrounded by rivers and a breathtaking mountain landscape, which instilled in me a deep appreciation for natural beauty at an early age. The changing seasons brought a renewed sense of wonder as I marveled at the stunning combinations of colors and textures that nature provided throughout the year.
As a child, my family moved around a lot, therefore, the idea of home was sometimes hard to define. However, my mother had a remarkable talent for breathing love and light into any place we lived. She taught me how to make any space feel safe, harmonious, and like home, regardless of the size of the area, how long we were there, the available decor, or the location we were staying. Her gift inspired me to explore and develop my own skills in this area, putting them to use over the years of moving around multiple states in my adult life. I learned that your home is very impactful on your well-being, thus influencing how you show up in the world. Tending to this space intentionally and authentically feels only natural to me.

MY CREATIVE JOURNEY
In my early 20s, while living the sunny beach life in Southern California, I received a Bachelor's degree in Art History, an absolutely life-changing experience that dramatically shaped who I am today. While working as a barista and waitress, developing my people skills, I dove deep into the world of art and culture. During this time, I was able to attend classes in the renowned museums and art galleries of Los Angeles, meet iconic living artists, and expose myself to so much cultural and spiritual diversity I never knew existed. I studied the vast nuances of art through the ages, practiced studio arts, and became versed in the Business of Art ~ setting a foundation of art appreciation and professional mechanics to build from throughout my life.
Following graduation (and a month-long trip to Greece), I found myself in the PNW leading school tours at the Tacoma Art Museum, and working as a Production Manager at PJ Hummel & Company ~ an iconic event design and production company in the greater Seattle area. The time spent in these industries further developed my eye for visual conversations, ability to manage logistics, and the chops to find solutions on a dime. Also during this time, I created Cobalt Collective (named after my affinity for collecting cobalt blue glass), to be an online landing spot for my artful musings and to connect other art zealots in my community. Today, this company is where I house my independently represented brands and artisans.
After years in art, design, and high-end hospitality, I took a job at Medlock Ames, a biodynamic vineyard in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, to explore winemaking and food pairing. Becoming a tasting room manager and vineyard docent exposed me to the dreamy world of wine and farm-to-table dining. How I loved this chapter greatly, and will forever be a self-proclaimed wine snob and foodie, my heart longed to get back into art and design. This is when I started studying interior design online and met Bonnie Saland (the artist behind Philomela) while living at The Sea Ranch ~ a chance meeting that allowed me to dive feet first into the world of digitally printed home goods and widen my lens even further for the possibilities within the industry.
In August of 2016, I began managing sales and marketing for an artisanal print studio, Philomela Textiles & Wallpaper, which allowed me to work remotely from the Northern California coast and the crystal shores of Lake Tahoe. During these early years with Philomela, I traveled around the country visiting interior design studios, design centers, and showrooms while also attending large trade events and markets ~ a priceless real-world tour of the interior design industry I now look back on with immense gratitude.
Since I was often visiting friends and family back home in Montana during this time, it was a natural progression to become an independent sales rep in this area for the brands I loved that didn’t have exposure there. This is something I still do today, repping only a few bespoke women-run home goods brands and artisans, allowing me to connect with many fabulous designers throughout the Rocky Mountain regions of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming.
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER
In 2018, I completed the Residential Interior Design program at the New York Institute of Art & Design and officially moved back to my home state of Montana. Although self-taught in many ways, this formal education gave me the language and professional skillset to create completed designs for clients. While still running operations for Philomela and repping, I started taking on my own design clients under Cobalt Collective Interiors. These early years of consultation helped me fine-tune how I am uniquely equipped to help people with their spaces. In 2025, I felt it was time to rebrand to what you see now ~ Kelsey Nicole Interiors ~ a full breath of what I bring to the table, available in a number of services as to maintain the humble, accessible nature of my purpose.
I appreciate all design styles, but I'm particularly drawn to natural materials and eclectic interiors that combine vintage pieces, artisan products, Scandinavian lines, and bohemian charm. I enjoy creating spaces that reflect my clients' unique personalities and lifestyles, inspired by diverse aesthetic expressions. Let’s just say, when my clients light up, I light up! Creating that joy is my calling in life, and I am so grateful that I am able to live every day doing what I love.
While I’m not curating interiors or studying various topics (ever a student!), you can find me trail-running, paddle boarding, swimming and sunbathing, snowboarding, thrift shopping, doing yoga, and reading my treasured library books.
